    Americanism Essay Contest
Grades 3-4, Why I am Proud to Be An American, 150 to 250 words 
Grades 5-6, Why I am Proud to Be An American, 250 to 300 words 
Grades 7-12, What Kind of American Am I?, 450 to 500 words

Applicants must present essay to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit by February 14, 2000.

Monetary prizes will be awarded in each category.

WINNING ESSAYS IN EACH CATEGORY WILL BE SENT TO DEPARTMENT ON OR BEFORE MARCH 1, 2000.

WINNING ESSAYS IN EACH CLASS SHALL BE FORWARDED TO THE DIVISION AMERICANISM CHAIRMAN BY MAY 15, 2000.

Essays may be handwritten or typed. The signature of the student must be at the end of the essay.

A Cover Sheet or Title Page is required to have: 
1. Student's Name 
1. Student's address 
2. Teacher's signature 
3. Teacher's verification of grade level 
4. Student's school name 
5. Student's school address, city and state 
6. Sponsoring Auxiliary:

Each Division winner will receive $25 and a citation.


NATIONAL PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP - To apply for this scholarship, applicant must be in their senior year of high school and must be the daughter or son of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion. Applications must be complete and presented by March 10, 2000. Please contact Sherryl Ferguson (347-3071) for paperwork if you are interested in this.
